    Splice in Polyester webbing

I am currently in the market for polyester webbing to make some tree straps. I found a good deal on some webbing, but I am wonderig about factory splices in the webbing. Is it safe to have those on the tree straps? Obviously it would be ideal to not have splices, but how much tensile strength do you lose from the splices? I just don't want to order ghe 25 yards and have mutie splices that leave me with only 15 usable yards for tree straps. Once again I tried searchig for this on here, and I am sure it has been addressed, so sorry if this is repeating a topic. Thanks guys!

This one is new to me. Haven't seen splices in webbbing before. Splices is rope preserve much of its breaking strength so I wonder if its the same for webbing? Can you provide a link or a picture to the webbing you are talking about? I'd like to see it.

You can stitch webbing together and retain the full strength, but chances are, what you are looking at is only stitched enough to continue winding on the roll. This is common on large rolls, but there is no excuse for it that I can see when buying 25 yards. What is the "good deal"? There are lots of sources for webbing.

Yes, a "good deal" would definitely include a continuous length of webbing.

The deal is in amazon, it diesn't say that there are splices, its just a disclaimer much like the one on strapworks website. The deal is for 25 yards of 1" polyester webbing for $17 including shipping. There is no picture of a splice, it just says there may be a chance that a splice is in it. I myself doubted that it would have a splice, I was just trying to be pro active before buying

Splices in webbing are generally where for whatever reason the section of webbing ended but they were not at a full roll size. We get them in about one out of every 4-5 rolls we go through. Everyone we have ever gotten the end of the two pieces are just held together with tape...so strength wise I would say you could expect about 2.4 pounds of strength should you get a section that had a splice. We cut them and throw the 2 tips that are covered in tape residue out. Not knowing what you will get is part of the old adage get what you pay for. Good luck.

I definitely agree with the get what you pay for idea, but every once and a while itbturns out well. At less than half the price of other places I'm taking a chance in it. They do say it is a closeout item, so I'm hoping the quality is there, and they are just moving inventory.

Are you looking at products offered by "Country Brook Design Inc"? I saw on some of their postings that if you need a continuous roll to contact them. Sounds like they might work with you.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't make 25yards work with a splice somewhere in it.

How many tree straps are you planning on making?

I have hung ~1400lbs on my sewn loops in 1inch poly webbing.
