    Hi Freeballer, welcome from Toronto..

The original reason I started looking into hammocks was because I was never getting a good night's sleep on the ground. My shoulders and hips would ache and I'd always wake up still. Although I love the outdoors, it was getting to the point that I would dread bedding down for the night.

As soon as I discovered hammocks, I was sold! It takes a little time to get used to them, to find that "perfect" position or "lie", but once I did, ther was no going back. Add to that a pair of insulated down quilts and now I actually forward to crashing for the night. It's a real high point, particularly since I built most of my own gear.

There's a learning curve, but hammocks easily ranks up there with ultralight tenting in terms of portability and weight and in my opinion stands well apart in terms of comfort.

    And it's all about comfort!

what about shoulders? do you find they get scrunched, or is that part of finding the perfect position?

yeah. there seems to be much more than picking out one with a mosquito net, or rain guard...
but I probably have the same level of knowledge about tents (none) lol

I have really messed up shoulders due to a few back wrecks, and found that gathered ends bother me overnight. I purchased one of Warbonnets Ridgerunner bridge hammocks, and I find no shoulder pinch, or uneven pressure. I own a very nice chiropractic bed, and this hammock is more comfortable than that in my opinion. I seem to get better circulation, and can sleep thru the whole night without waking.

    Cheers

    thank you fellow canucks

I own a pretty good mattress myself, but every morning I'm in pain. Sleeping on the ground worries me a bit.

I'm going to search locally, and see if any local stores have camping hammocks. I am a bit pessimistic in finding any but I should check to see if a "regular" hammock will pinch my shoulders.

another welcome from Ontario. I've had back problems for years, both upper back and lower. I gave my expensive bed to my sister after discovering hammocks, it's nice to wake up pain free! I find I sleep better in a "double" hammock (ENO doublenest) as there's more room to lie diagonally than in a single. I use a Hennessy for camping which is what started me out...I figured if I could sleep eleven hours straight while out camping, I should be able to at home as well. Now that I'm sleeping comfortably every night, I only need seven or eight.

Oh, and even though you're indoors, don't forget an UQ.
