    new from canada...

    Hi,
I'm a canuck, I was curious seeing some recent youtube videos /w hammocks.
I'm peticularly interested in two things; the size/portability for hammock camping, and I've read they were good for your back...

Can someone who has upper back/neck problems confirm or deny this?

    Thanks for stopping in,
    Geo

Welcome to the forum. Hammocks are very portable, as portable and light as your tent gear. As far as back problems go i'll let someone else speak directly to that but i have seen allot of folks on this forum talk about the relief they've received from sleeping in a hammock when they weren't able to sleep on the ground in fact there are a number of folks who have switched full time to a hammock at home. Have a look for shug's video's for new folks, in particular the one where he show's him packing his Ohm backpack. This will give you a good idea of portability. You can find the video's in the video section or on youtube.

    Geo-
Welcome to HF. There's lots of information here - you can read for weeks!

You'll probably get some answers to your questions here, but you'll get more responses if you post questions in separate threads somewhere other than the 'Introduce Yourself' sub-forum.

    Re: new from canada...

    Welcome to HF!

I have lower back problems and have been sleeping in a hammock full time for almost 2 years...and loving it!

Hopefully someone with upper back issues will respond.

Welcome from Ontario. As mentioned, I've also read many people experience relief from back pain. Certainly while backpacking your back will be happier vs sleeping on the ground.

ty for the warm welcome. It sounds like something I should look into.. Camping on the ground, for me,
would probably involve a rather large/bulky air mattress. I'll have to lurk around a bit. I didn't notice the video directory..
I noticed shug had a review of ultimate hang book. I've seen it around google..
    might be worth a look
