    Great minds think alike!

I'm also working on a pulk using a Jet Sled JR and a skipulk.com pole kit. I plan to fabricate my stabilizing fin using a piece angle aluminum. The belt is off an old backpack.

I gotta say I am impressed with the poles and included hardware. They seem quite sturdy.

You don't need it. At least that is what you will tell yourself. Until the...but I really want that. .
Seriously though the hang is at the beginning of winter so take your time and take a look at what is there and then decide.

The sled I used last year was an inexpensive kid's sled about 4' long and 18" wide at the back tapering to about a foot at the front. The 2 poles were 1/2" pvc with a line running down the inside and attached to a carabiner at both ends. I used an old pack belt around my waist and drilled holes in the sled for the other end. I also pop riveted two 12" lengths of 1" aluminum angle on the back to act as directional skids, (rudder?). We thought the 2 skids made it harder to turn. It kept wanting to go in a straight line, but with the trail that did not go in a straight line, this was a problem. Nighthauk you towed it for a while, do you have any thoughts on the design? Improvements? I will bring it to the hang.

I pulled it for quite a ways on the hike. My only real thought for the skegs is that I think they were too long. I think that they only need to be a few inches long at the back of the sled instead of running most I the length. This would allow for much easier turning while still preventing the back of the sled from sliding sideways.

===> Me sled will have two 6" moveable fins on the rear sides, using Ranger Bands ( two pieces of cut bicycle inner tube) to allow them to retract up when going over an object, and then pulled back down once back on the snow. They can be disengaged and locked in the up position when not needed.

Hope to have them installed by the hang!

Hey Major, how is that new bionic eye working out? Hope all is well.
If it moves, you can eat it. No promises you will think it tastes good.

===> Still a bit sketchy, thanks. Hopefully it will heal a bit better than it had been. I get the stitches out of my eyeball in two weeks, so things should improve a bit after that. Was going to do a hike next weekend with Tripod, but will have to see (bad pun!).

    Thanks for the shout!
