    shouldn't matter much, when loaded the webbing should be in basically the same place on the biner no matter which way the gate faces. and the pull should be in the same direction as well. faceing it down might take some weight off the spine, but it's still more than strong enough and should make no difference. i don't think the webbing is gonna be more likely to come out in either case either.
