Need some help deciding on a poncho.

Title says it all, looking for suggestions. I was really looking at a Swiss poncho (http://www.amazon.com/BudK-Swiss-Cam...eywords=poncho)

Cheap and seems to be very durable. Only downfall is 2lbs of weight..
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Its a little pricey, and a bit heavier (14.8 oz), but I've been carrying an Exped Bivy Poncho UL for a while.

I've been meaning to see if I can use the snaps to rig it as a UQ protector. Guess i should get on that.

I made a lightweight poncho to replace a heavy military poncho. Here's a link:

Much easier than you might think. Prior to making one, I had my eye on a golite model.

Haven't made the purchase just yet but strongly considering this Cuben fiber poncho from zpacks: http://www.zpacks.com/accessories/gr...t_poncho.shtml

Just got back from a trip to the Grand Tetons and constantly changing in and out of my rain suit was a major pain. It rained on us every day off and on.

Wasn't that rain in the Tetons accompanied by wind?
I tried a poncho years ago (one trip) and the *&^% thing spent its time blowing around.
From then on it was a pack cover and rain gear for me. Unless it was a real deluge I found I could skip the rain pants on/off; but that was usually wearing wool pants or similar. (showin' my age....)

If I'd had the Exped poncho, I probably would be a poncho convert to this day. It's a well thought out piece of gear , from the video:

    I do like Exped gear!

I have a Swiss Poncho, it is huge, I could set up house keeping in it. Decidedly over kill, it is heavy, sweaty, very ample, tough as all get out.

I used mine twice, it was just too much. I have a Hennessy, a WWII army poncho, also one from GoLite. They are all different, serve different purposes. The Swiss Poncho is by far the largest and the heaviest. I think it would be great for BigFoot or someone over 6 ft 4 ins. Great for sitting around, maybe while hunting, add a little heat a chair and some lunch, a hunter would have it made. LOL

I have the same question. I finally tore my beloved and abused US army poncho. I am looking for its replacement.

I really want the same thing but, less weight would be nice. I use the snaps, and strings and all of the grommets. I also want one the same dimensions to fit with my poncho liners. It is a really versatile piece of gear and has proven indispensable over many adventures (if I could put in a sappy love story video here I would). It has been probably the most used and abused piece of gear I have next to my hat.

Does such a thing exist? If there is a way to improve on it I am interested.
    Mind over matter,
if you don't mind, it don't matter

Try the packa! www.thepacka.com excellent product
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

+1 for the Golite. It's awesome, light, and doubles as a tarp for nighttime
