I'm Jo from Hamburg, Germany and just wanted to say "Hi and thank you!".
Have been reading in this gorgeous forum for some weeks or so and gathered some pretty usefull information here (joined because I wanted to see the pictures of all the DIY-projects
About two years back I made my first (and so far only) DIY-hammock without knowing I weren't alone. I copied and improoved the design from a camping-hammock sold by my nearest outdoorshop and am loving it since. It's a gathered end with sewn channels where I used to direktly loop my suspension line through (via bowline knot). In here I learned about the downside of this simple method (3mm rope around tree) and have now switched to straps with self made whoopies on whipped ends. Also I installed a fixed ridgeline and even own a copy of "The ultimate hang" by now
So far I only sleept one night as an hanger, since I made the hammock as recreational thing for the park and on climbing trips. Now that I know how good I sleep in it the goal is not going back to the ground again. This community helps a lot with that - thank you.
