    Info re Snipe

I have a Lite Owl, which I use for winter camping and which I purchased after watching Shug's early video about the Snipe. Now that I have transitioned largely to using an UQ and foot pad, I no longer need a double layered hammock most of the time and am considering getting a Snipe. I see that it's 1.5 oz ripstop, as opposed to the 1.1 oz Lite Owl. I'm curious to hear how the feel of the Snipe compares to the Lite Owl or, if you've not tried both, what you can tell me about your assessment of the Snipe. Thanks in advance for any input.

They are both great hammocks and I really can't tell much of a difference in the lay. In my oppinion the 1.1 used on the lite owl is just a little softer feeling.

Thanks Caveman. I imagine I'd like the Snipe because I like the lay of the Lite Owl. I've just never felt the 1.5 oz material and all of my hammocks have two layers. Appreciate the feedback.

    I don't own a Snipe (yet) but I have a Night Owl (1.5) and a Light Owl.
I prefer the feel of the 1.5 material. The best way I can describe it would be, less blouse-y.
I think a snipe will be my next purchase.

I've had a double 1.1 before and IMO 1.1 almost feels too thin and whispy. I really like the feel of the 1.5 and the Snipe is my favorite hammock too. The 1.5 feels just right between 1.1 and 1.7.

Interesting. I have both the Snipe and Lite Owl and prefer the feeling of the LO material. It seems much nicer against my skin. Both are great hammocks, though. The LO goes in my pack and the Snipe stays in my truck. You just never know when you'll need to take a nap.

A belated thanks to everyone for the replies. Marty sent me a sample of the Snipe fabric and I've decided to give it a try. It'll be my first single layer hammock, as I've always been a big believer in pads in cold weather (although now I plan primarily to use a partial length UQ with a small pad in my TQ for my feet, thus hopefully rendering the need for a second layer and large pad unnecessary except perhaps in very cold conditions), and I'm looking forward to seeing whether I like it as much as my Lite Owl. It's always great to do business with Marty and Wilderness Logics.
