Hello everybody. I've been lurking here for about six months now and figured it was about time to introduce myself. My name is Paul. I'm from the cleveland medina area of Ohio. I started hanging six months or so ago due to my first backpacking trip this spring.
I went on my first trip with some friends, I used an old army frame pack and a heavy two person tent. I was at an absurd weight of around forty pounds. With that gear was this neat hammock I bought at dicks sporting goods called the ENO doublenest. I bought it for relaxing in during the trip and found it to be better than my sleeping pad and tent, but I didn't get up the nerve to skip the tent that first trip.
Since then I have some several weekend trips and many a overnighters, I sleep I the hammock at least once a week. And I set it up at work every single day for relaxation during lunch and breaks. (My boss thinks it hilarious)
I just this past week got myself the hennesy ultralight. And so far I love the weight of it. Darn thing barely weighs more than the doublenest and this is e whole package!
This weekend I am going on a three day trip down in PA and I game managed to get my weight (including water) down to only 20 pounds! I know that's still pretty heavy, and at this point a big part of the weight that can be reduced is my jetboil and my backpack. Right now I am using a Kelty Trekker external frame, and honestly it's ridiculous because of how light it is. (It's not even half full) so I'm looking around for a more lightweight solution.
One that interested me is the kelty redwing 44, but I know I can do better.
Anyhow it's nice meeting all of you. I apologize for rambling, and I hope to enjoy your companies in the future!
