    Plans for DIY 20* UQ

I've been doing a lot of reading, have almost all my supplies, and I think I'm ready to get started on this project. I just want a few more eyes to make sure my plan isn't screwed up.

I'm planning on full length (height + 5") and a pre-dart width of 48". With the darts the finished ends will be 36", 8 chambers with 1.5" darts on the inner layer and 2.5" on the outer. I'll have 2" baffles with a 1" differential cut. I'm planning on making a "tub" out of the outer and having the inner as the "lid". Sowing order would be darts, baffles top and bottom, pleats for the tub corners, three edges, stuff and last edge. I have what should be ~800fill, so I should be ~13* with 10% over stuff if the calculator is right.

I'm not sure if I want to try to add the channels to the seam allowances or cut and add them separately. Any thoughts on that? I'm also planning on putting tabs on the corners to provide separate edge tensioners and suspension lines.

I'm attaching some drawings to show what I'm thinking. Any thoughts?

What material are you using? Make sure it comes wide enough for your shell dimensions. Otherwise looks good.

Id make channels as part of your seam allowance. Just remember you need to do a diagonal fold in the corner so they don't run over each other.

Have you thought about grossgrain for the channels?

Looks good...Cant wait to see the finished product...The only thing I personally would change is sewing up the sides of the baffles...This seems to me to be a very tedious task that has minimal impact on the UQ's functionality. Guess I am just being lazy...lol

I'm using 1.1 oz ripstop that is at least 64" wide, haven't actually measured it yet. I'm trying to picture how to add the seam allowance. Would it be with one or both layers and how would you sow the seam?

I have thought about grosgrain but am inclined to use the ripstop as the channels will be for shaping and not suspension.

XTrekker, I'm not sure what you mean by the sides of the baffles. Are you talking about sowing it to the ends to make the tub?

    My 2 cents:

Sewing in the walls to the sides was easy and I convinced myself it keeps the down from moving around and one day being all in one baffle.

The part I would skip would be to hem the baffle walls, took several hours and probably doesn't affect durability too much.
