seaelf, I do sleep diagonally, and quite comfortably. My hammock is a Hennessey Backpacker Asym, several years old, and it helps to hang it with the foot end higher than the head end (maybe 8-15 inches higher, depending on how far apart the trees are and how taught you make the hammock). After I hang it, I get inside to test for comfort before I set up the pad and sleeping bag. Ideally, my feet are a little elevated but my torso is flat.

Anyone attach straps or cord to a sleeping pad to suspend it outside and below the hammock? Would suspending this pad alleviate some of the sliding problems, or introduce more? Would stacking this pad configuration with a three season UQ benefit to get down to cooler temps?

Hmm...suspending a pad. Interesting concept. It seems like it would be more difficult than using a double layer hammock. Maybe you could suspend it from your ridgeline? that could work.

I use a sleeping bag as a top quilt with an Alps Mountaineering self inflatable pad and a PLUQ. I stayed warm down to the mid 30s wearing shorts and a fleece beanie (no shirt or socks).

I have been thinking about trying to cut a ccf to fit inside my mummy bag to see if it works. I was thinking it would help me stay on the pad if it is inside the bag. Has anyone tried this?

Ed if you don't already have one you might consider a ENO Hot Wings SPE. It keeps my old fulll length Thermarest positioned under me and provides extra coverage and warmth for the shoulder area.

Angled Channel for a CCF or Inflatable Pad?

I'm new at this, and haven't read all the countless post on HF.net - yet.
Maybe this has been brought up, and if so, I apologize in advance.

I've wondered why you couldn't make a DIAGONAL channel under your hammock to accommodate a pad.
The fabric channel could be sewn on the diagonal you would sleep, and maybe make it 25-30 inches wide.
Slide your CCF or inflatable pad inside the channel on an angle, and there is no lateral movement of the pad.

    Benefits:
Strength of a 2-layer hammock where it is needed most
Less material than a full 2nd layer = less weight
Channel keeps the pad in place with no slipping
Mosquito protection where it's needed most when pad is not used - summer
    Relatively simple modification

I'm no artist, but I drew a sketch as an example.
    Comments welcome.

I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, make sure I stay here.

When I see lovers' names carved into a tree, I don't think it's cute. I think it's strange how so many people take knives on a date.

Has any one stitched/glued in velcro to stop the pad slippage?
    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.
Are you putting the pad between the layers of your hammock? If you're using a pad I'm assuming you're also using a sleeping bag. Try putting the pad inside the sleeping bag with you instead of between the hammock layers. I use a neo air and it works great for me. I sleep diagonally and even on my side. Been down to 30 degrees with out any problems. Hope this helps and good luck!

A sticky carpet pad keeps my breathable and neoprene waders from slipping around and off the Thermarest pad that's secured to the seat of my Water Master fishing raft.
