    Whoopie Sling Question

I know a 7/64 amsteal whoopie is strong enough for a section hike. I have used mine about 24 times but its looking a little warn. My question is, will 7/64 last for a Thru Hike. At least 120 night in the hammock, or would I be better of to go with a 1/8 amsteal?

I personally think you would be fine. Mine has many nights on them and they are a bit frayed looking but they still hold like new. You would be good to take at least one extra just in case. You just never know

A little fraying is normal. What you want to look for is if any of the individual strands are compromised. I agree with Mountnman, bring an extra one or two. Some gear cannot be double up on but hammock suspension is one of the things I think should be. Extra cordage is always good to have with out IMO.

I would say go ahead and make up some 1/8 ones, the peice of mind alone will make the hike more enjoyable, one less thing to worry about,
I am a big guy and have made myself several sets out of 3/16 amsteel and i dont ever worry about failure at all!

But if it came right down to it Mountnman is most likely right, they are fine and last quite awhile

+1 on what Mountnman says, just bring an extra to be on the safe side, they are inexpensive and light weight.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

Is it not lighter to just go with 1/8 then to carry an extra set of 7/64? I'm not sure how much more the 1/8 weighs then the 7/64.

It doesn't matter if it's 1/8 or 7/64, you're still going to see wear and fraying, especially at the exit point of the adjustable loop splice. As long as you don't have broken strands - no biggie.

I would have no problem using 7/64 whoopies for 100+ nights - I think I've already exceeded that on mine.
