    Shawangunk Ridge Trail

Couple of weeks a go me and my buddies decided to do a "geezers" hike, but the Adirondacks were a bit far for our overnighter. Instead we hit the Shawangunk Ridge Trail, which parrallels the Long Path near Wurtsboro, NY. I had never heard of this trail until I saw it on the nynj trail conference website. The trail is a ridgetop trail (mostly), and the ridge is covered in scrub oak and blueberry bushes so there are some great views. At one view I could make out High Point, NJ and at another view we could make out Doubletop (I think) in the Catskills.

    Our hang:

High Point, NJ some 35 miles distant:

    Catskills in the distance:

I did a full trip report on Walking With The Son . Full trip pics HERE .

Pretty country. Looks like a fun trip and not on Federal land... ;-) Thanks for sharing.

I got a bit curious so here is a link to the trail page. It's a 40 mile trail with free maps in the northeastern NY/NJ border area.

Definitely a fun trip. I put the same link in my blog post. That and the Long Path description is really all the info out there for the SRT.

Thanks for sharing. This is the first I've heard of this trail. Good to know it's an option.

George - A group hang is being planned for 10/18-20 at Dingmans Campground on the Delaware River, just below Milford, PA. We have about 22 people from the area signed up. Would like to extend an invitation to you and your hiking buds.

Would love to go, but I'm going to be hiking in central Virginia from 10/16 until 10/19. Thanks for the invite
