    One Tree Hang

We've had a couple of good days so decided to get out and practice something i hadn't done before,,,a one tree hang.

Lashed together a tripod and then a ridgepole to a cedar.

    Set up the tarp,,,,,,,an SF.
Put it over the ridge to begin with,,,

Then decided to put it under the ridge to give better coverage to the hammock.

The day was coming to a close. We've had fresh snow on the mts and it will be cold tonight.

In the morning it was hard to get out of the cocoon,,,,but the sun had come out.

    IMG_0535 by mbira2ride, on Flickr

time for breakfast,,,,,,some oatmeal and tea. It got down into the mid thirties last night,,,,i needed my wool pants on while sitting around the fire.

Sitting around drinking tea as the sun was breaking thru the forest.

So in a pinch its easy to set up ,,,,,takes a bit of time and some cordage,,, and some lashing knowledge.

    Thanks for looking

    Wonderful and beautiful.

That's a great set up. Something I've been saying to do with just 1 TDS. You have made it a great use for outdoors activities.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I just really don't like cold weather much anymore, but every time you put up one of these picture reports on the area where you live, I find myself thinking about how it would be to relocate up north of the border. Sir, there is nothing missing that I can see. Just beautiful scenery and a lack of over population. Again, I confess to being a bit envious.

Great report and how to for people that have been asking about 1 tree hanging options recently.

As for "big cedar".... I have seen pictures of significantly bigger cedars out in B.C. I suppose size is a relative thing, but being on the far west side of the continent puts you in the land of the giant trees.

    Cheers

That's funny,,,i had been thinking the same thing. When i wrote it i just sort of meant big compared to what i used for the tripod and ridgepole. Its only a foot across and thirty feet away are a couple of cedars 2'-3' across. There are a few area's around here with cedars 4' - 15'across but you have to keep in mind this is BC and a logging province, most of the big stuff was gone decades ago. There is one trail, the Earl Grey Trail, that is a week long hike and 2 days of that are thru a forest of 4' cedars altho i believe it was torched by wildfire 6 yrs ago.
