using it on the ground as the only insulation, however, i found it to perform very very poorly at 25 degrees and low elevation on the benton mackeye trail.
i wonder now. i dont wear clothes in hammock. just boxers and t. i NEVER go to the ground but i have NEVER been cold on the trail. it might work for me.
PS this is to finish my thru hike (or my two section hikes for u purists)

actually it is a 225.00 quilt which would be equal or a little cheaper cost wise with the 3 season quilts by JRB

Yeah, with the sale it was about $140 shipped. I bought one.

Now I'm hoping it turns out to be a good purchase. You guys have me a little worried. I didn't need it as I was already using old sleeping bags in the hammock. It's just that it was much lighter. It's my first piece of down gear (aside from the WB yeti, which has only seen a few nights of use so far). I was never willing to go with down on the ground because you just never can predict what gear failure or unforseen act of god will cause you to get wet. Obviously that can happen in a hammock, but after the CRAZY storm I weathered in it my FIRST TIME OUT (read about it in my trip reporst), I'm quite a bit more confident taking down with me.

Yeah, I bought the Golite Ultra on that "ultra" sale and its been a solid purchase. I've only gone down to 35 with it, but that's with no underquilt. I don't know that I'd trust it by itself any lower than that, but I probably would if I had a nest or something under me. It ended up being a lot warmer than I thought it would be.

Well, judging by what other members told me, the last model had some problems with being understuffed and was not really good down to the rating. Apparently they have redesigned it. This all came from forum posters, not from the company, so it might only be worth what you paid for it.
