FL> Lake Wales Ridge SF> Nov 8-10,11?> Grinder's Birthday Hang

We have settled on the Creekside campsite for the 3rd annual Grinder's Birthday Hang. As of this time this is the tentative location dependent on the water conditions. Google Earth; 'Ruck's Dairy Farm Rd., Frostproof Fl' will place you at the trail head just south of Livingston Creek bridge. I am going to ask samsara to insert the maps and hiking direction. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

    Woohoo, here we go!

Let's see... directions/map to meeting spot will be here.

    Here is the map:

It is fairly easy to get to the camp site but I would recommend that you come during the daytime if you haven't been there yet ( lilricky can do it in his sleep ). The orange trail that runs along the creek is more scenic (and shaded) but longer than the straight blue trail. From the end of the blue trail where it meets up with the orange trail you will continue on the orange trail to the south about 1/4 mile and look for the first trail/service road to your left. It has a post with a sign on it for the creekside camp site. Follow that road/trail for about another 1/4 more and you'll be all set.

As always... use your tree straps, leave no trace, hang your food (we have bears in the area), pets are welcome but they need to be on a leash (we also have panthers in the area), snakes, hogs, chiggers, skeeters, etc. etc. etc.

There is plenty of water available at the creek, picnic table, fire ring, and lots of trees. Other than that, you are on your own. The state forest entrance fee is $2/person/day which can be paid at the iron ranger box near the kiosk at the parking. You might have to dig in to get to the envelopes but there should be some inside. Keep the tear off part and hang it on your rear view mirror so that law enforcement knows that you have paid. There is a little bit of parking near the trailhead but more about 100 yards down Rucks Dairy road at the campground or in the open field across from the campground.

I will probably head out there about 11 on Friday so if you want to go with me be there before 11 because I probably won't wait

There is only one requirement for this event... bring your singing voice so you can sing happy birthday to grinder

Looks like I'll be bringing the Dutch Oven for a couple of Cobblers, maybe a Maine Wild Blueberry and a Peach.

Also being that Monday will be a holiday it will be available Sunday night for any that need another night hanging in the Florida wilds.

I'm a gonna try and make this one. As of right now, I should be able to make it in around dark on Saturday. Maybe even bring some calzones from work...

Oh, and I'll sing if you want, but the thing I told my first manager at a restaurant: "Frank, we sing so the customer'll be happy and come back. If I sing, ain't nobody gonna be happy." I may not be tone deaf, but I am tone mute.
"Just prepare what you can and enjoy the rest."

I will still be in SC or NC more maybe GA depending on if I get lost or not. However, I told Grinder Happy Birthday up at Hidden Pond.

Keep me posted on another Arbuckel adventures and I'll see y'all at those.

Pencil me in. It has sadly been way too long since I've been hanging in the woods!
