    Magna Fabrics - Incorrect Denier?

    I ordered two rolls of fabric from Manga over the past couple months. One of foliage green, which is actually very grey, and one of ACU camo. The foliage was supposed to be 70D, 1.9oz, and the camo was supposed to be 40D, 1.6oz. I finally got my scale, and weighed two blanks that I have, and have come to the realization that both are wrong. The grey is actually about 1.6oz, and the camo is about 1.9oz. Has anyone had this experience with them? I'm debating telling them...

    Denier and weight are only loosely connected. One deals with the mass of the thread, the other with the weight of the woven fabric. Dyes, finishes, weave density, polymer type and other variables can affect the weight of the fabric and leave the denier correct. Denier is all very scientific and weight is what it is.
    I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Good to know... Magna included the denier and weight both on the product description, so they're still incorrect. But is it possible that the weight of the print on the camo brought it up to 1.9oz, and 1.6oz was the starting weight? The foliage was supposed to be 1.9oz, but it is 1.6oz, so it makes me concerned that it's not actually 70D.

    Is it DWR treated? That will increase the weight. And are you weighing a square yard or a linear yard? The listed weights are for square yards.

    Neither is supposed to have DWR, at least according to the product description.

    I'm weighing by square yard. I have 11' sections, so I determined the square inches, first:
    11 x 12 x fabric width (61 for foliage, 65.5 for camo)
    grey = 8052
    camo = 8646
    I then divide that by 1296 (a square yard = 36 x 36) to convert from square inches to square yards.
    grey = 6.213
    camo = 6.671
    Finally, I divided the weight of each blank by the number of square yards. The grey blank was 10.0 oz, and the camo blank was 12.8 oz.
    grey = 1.610 oz/sq. yd.
    camo = 1.920 oz/sq. yd.

    I would just tell them. Worst thing they can say is "we don't care".

    Re: Magna Fabrics - Incorrect Denier?

    I have bought fabrics from them before that i cut out a square yard to weigh and it weighed more than the listed weight. Just by looking at the poor maintenance of the site, i am not surprised to see incorrect product descriptions.

    I have also had problems with them,ordered 40 yards green, they sent me 33 yards gray, long story but in short you gotta be careful with them.
    I Call them magnas hit or miss, very unorganized, if you can get exactly what you order it is a great deal but in 2 different orders i placed not one was exactly what i ordered.
    Too bad because the prices are very decent!

    I have ordered from them 3 times with out a problem. As to the weight of the fabric, I can't say as I never cut a square yard of it to weigh.
