    Simple Newbie Question

I am looking for a first hammock and have been checking out the WBBB.

But I couldn't figure out the answer to this question on their website: What is the difference between the regular Blackbirds and XLC versions??

I couldn't figure this out. Thanks!

The regular is 10' the XLC is 11'. I believe the net will come off completely on the XLC and it will not on the blackbird. There are some other slight differences, but I think those are the big ones.

If I'm not mistaken the XLC also does not have the shelf that the BB does. I like having the shelf to store stuff. The XLC's have an available overcover that provides more warmth whereas the BB only has the bugnet.

I'm not sure, but I think that the XLC also has a side panel that was replaced with no-see-um netting to allow a better sight line while in the hammock.

My understanding is that as long as the XLC has the top net or the top cover on, it will still have the shelf.

Is it still easy to use the regular version as a seat if the bugnet is not removable?

The XLC does have the shelf. It is a foot longer than the BB and also comes with a solid top cover that replaces the bugnet for cold weather camping. The bug netting comes down lower on the sides of the XLC, providing more visibility from inside the hammock compared to the BB.

The XLC works fine as a chair with the netting zipped open and tied back.

    Take it easy,

    XL- Extra Long
    C- Convertible

I'm not positive that was what Brandon was thinking but that is how I have always read it.

    Good Luck

Friend of mine loaned me a WWBB today at Rotary to try out. Can't wait!! He used his as a chair on the AT throughout the trip.

There is a great video that highlights the differences: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRoO_hx33Cg

I couldn't figure out the differences either until I stumbled across the video. Of course, it also took me a while to figure out what all the numbers meant, 1.1, 1.7, etc LOL.

Have fun shopping for your first hammock! :-)
