    Diamond configuration....

How many people prefer to hang their tarps in a diamond configuration? I see the advantages of a hex tarp but I can't figure out why I'm still stuck on a square tarp!!! Mostly everything I do is DIY and a hex, with cat cuts, isn't that much more work. I just love a square tarp!!! Am I sick or something?

I like them as well in good weather. If the weather turns really nasty you may get wet if your tarp isn't long enough.

I like both, in fact I just used the Claytor Diamond Tarp in three days of rain on and off. It held up well and I didn't get wet. I tried to upload the pics but couldn't get it to work. There are some pics on my website of the tarp set up...

If I'm travelling REALLY light, I might bring my original/stock hennessy diamond tarp, but for the extra bit of weight, the larger footprint under my OES McCat Standard is worth it to have room to relax, cook under, etc, without being so cramped. I don't like a square edge because they flap at night and it keeps me up.

A hex tarp is a hex tarp, is a hex tarp, or at best a hex tarp in porch mode
Now, a square tarp is another thing altogether. Square, diamond, porch, lean-to, diamond lean-to, whatever you can imagine.
I sold my hex and bought a rectangle (not quite as good as square, but close) for the versatility.

I'm convinced the only reason to go to the small diamond is to save a few grams. A few more ounces of tarp makes bad weather so much easier to deal with.
    YMMV
