Cheep bottom insulating solution help?

Hey guys viper here!

So I have gotten a few people into hammock camping lately but some people can't afford a UQ in their budget ATM so just a blue foam pad from Walmart inside the hammock with say a 0deg sleepng bag how cold roughly do you think a blue sleepng pad would take them?
Basicly need a easy cheep not really a diy prospect for my friend because well he is to lazy to make stuff lol but will keep him warm. Thanks guys

At the 2nd Annual Florida Hang in Jan 2012, I got down to 25* with a pad and my 50* sleeping bag wrapped around like a pod. No tarp and my jacket closing off the head end.

I have been down to 28F with a blue pad, keeps you warm but shoulders get cold when top insulation compresses against hammock sides. You need some kind of pad extension/wings at that kind of temp. Lots of different ideas on here for that and it can be as simple as a piece of windshield reflector laid sideways.

Is their a reason car window reflector things are better then a foam pad?

Fold easier, warmer, more durable,.easier to lay on because they lay flat

I have been using a thing I made & it took me to the lower 40s nice and warm.

I went to Lowes and bought single bubble mirror insulation. 24" x 25' for around $25. I went to Walmart and bought 2 felt sleeping bags. About $12 each. Cut the insulation to fit the bag. Taped a strip down the side to make it wide enough with aluminum tape used on ducts for central units. After inserting the insulation I stitched up the top of the bag. Rolls up good and is light. Put in the hammock it will cover the shoulders. It winds up @ around 28/30".

This brought the price to around $25 apiece for the 2 and I have insulation left over for insulated coozies and pot covers.

I've recently put grommets on the corners of my Snugpak jungle blanket and rigged it around the outside of the hammock using paracord. It hasn't been very cold, so, I have no idea how low it might be comfy, but, it sure seems to work pretty good.

I'll take foam over reflectix or windshield barriers any day. The one thing to be fussy about is to get the softer small cell size foam instead of the stiff coarse large cell foam. Walmart has both. If you want a cover use synthetic polar fleece on one side and nylon on the other.

I can't find "single bubble mirror insulation" on Lowes website. Can you provide a link or a more accurate description of it? I like your idea. Thanks.
