So I ordered a roll of 34x40D from Magna. The roll came in last night, and it was taller than me at 72"! For a gathered end hammock, would you trim that down some? How much?

You can talk to stargaze. He has a tablecloth hammock that is 132"x90" he loves it.

Personally, for an 11' long hammock, I find that 62" (before hemming; call it ~60.75" after) is a little floppy. Next time, I might trim down to 58" or even 55". For reference, I'm 6' tall and approximately 200 lbs, with fairly broad shoulders (I've got that weight lifter gorilla thing going on rather than the "V" swimmer's build).
Hope it helps!

Is there such a thing as too wide, i have a triple hammock bliss and when it gets chilly i just wrap myself up a bit, very comfy
^ That's where I'm at now. I've made 70", 64", 62", etc. wide hammocks, with and with out the knotty stretch side mod and am now annoyed by the wider hammocks always being in my face. I've gone to a 54"er for around the yard, but still lean toward ~60" when using a TQ and pillow to help keep them in.
I also like them all to be long. 11-12'
A 90" tablecloth hammock works if I want to close it like peapod, but is otherwise uncontrollably in my face.
Of course, many hangers like the wider models and you may as well.
If you have a long roll, try a wide one first and go from there. If you don't have fabric to burn, cut your blank to length, whip the ends (without any hemming) and give it a test hang. That's the only way you will know what works for you.
I'm thinking, however, that 72" might be a good width for a 9 foot hammock.
Ill try it full length, then tack the edges underneath until I figure out what works best.
I tried 2 dream hammocks at the Michigan fall hang, an 11' and a 10' and surprisingly I liked the 10' better. I got enough for a 12', so I have some experimenting to do.
