Here's some still pics and HD video from my 2 day hiking trip to Mt. Rogers, Virginia. Mt. Rogers is the highest point in Virginia at 5,729 feet. I stayed at the campground at Grayson Highlands State Park at about 4,300 feet. It's a very nice campground for tents, RVs, and they even have a large bunkhouse you can rent out. They have water and electric RV hookups, nice bath houses with hot water, wild trout fishing, and miles of trails to hike.
When I started my 9.3 mile (r/t) hike to the summit the weather was nice but quickly turned cold, windy, misty, rainy, ice pellets, etc. There are some large expanses of clear terrain up there and the wind in the open areas is wicked.
Wild ponies live up there and I got a bunch of still pics and video of them.
The video is kinda long, sorry about that!
All my gear worked very well, especially my Clark NX-250 hammock and 20F down filled underquilt by Hammock Gear. I stayed toasty warm inside the hammock, even had to open a vent to let some cool air in. I was going to hang from the trees but I decided to use my hammock stands instead and just set up on the tent pad. I have a 3 piece pole for the hammock stands and I put some hinges and clasps on the legs so they will fold up and fit in my car easily.
The video in in HD so use the Youtube "gear" control to set HD mode.
