Camped out in Cohutta WMA on a bear/deer hunt on what I hope is my last time on the ground. Working on my DIY hammock and getting the tarp, suspension, etc. but couldn't finish it before this trip. Weather was awesome. Views were awesome. Tent camping was not.
Due to the campgrounds being closed we couldn't find a great spot for two tents that we could park close enough to, that met our needs. But all I could think of is my hammock and one tent (friend with me) would have fit on several, so here's to hammock camping next year I hope!
In our travels around the mountain, I did see someone hammock camping on Friday, but not sure where I was (but up near the Tennessee line is where we camped Thursday). On our way off the mountain, I told my friend (who thinks I'm crazy for wanting to try hammock camping- especially in bear country) that at least I'm not alone.... "There's someone who's crazy like me".
To whomever it was hammock camping on Cohutta, hope your hang was better than my ground dwelling- but I did have a great time despite the ground.... Saw two bear, about 15-20 wild turkey and a cemetery with a porta-potty.
