Guyline / Shockcord - will this work?

In lieu of making/buying the "self tightening" guylines that combine the guyline with some type of shockcord, why not just tie a 6" shockcord loop on each tarp connection d-ring? Then you can choose to tie your guyline onto either the shockcord loop (self-tightening mode -pic 1) or direct to the tarp connection ring (regular mode - pic 2).

This sure seems simple and gives you options depending on setup and conditions....any reason it won't work?

Leave it like you have it in the second photo and when you want to use the shock tensioner, just attach the guy line to the shock cord with a clove hitch as in photos 1-5 in this tutorial. This limits the maximum stretch allowed and protects the shock cord from breakage.
