    DriDucks Poncho

I see that you can use the DriDucks poncho as a weather shield for your hammock with some slight modifications. What exact is a weather shield? Can you still use the poncho as it was untended after you have it modified? What does it do when used as weather shield?

Would you rather use a poncho as opposed to a rain jacket and rain pants? I'm still getting all my gear gather together and trying to figure out what to do about rain protection while hiking.

I purchased the DriDucks poncho to use solely as a weather shield for my hammock so I got the modification kit installed at JRB. It can indeed still be used as a rain poncho with the hammock kit installed though.

If it is warm enough to hike most of the day in shorts, it is likely warm enough to use a poncho as rain gear/pack cover (if your pack is small enough). Otherwise, you may freeze your butt off. Sometimes you need a waterproof breathable parka abd pants for warmth and a windbreak.

A weather shield, normally comprised of a water proof breathable material, goes over either your top quilt and/or your under quilt and helps to protect it from damp, foggy, or rainy conditions.

You can still use it as a poncho.

Thanks for the info guys. I went ahead and ordered one for using this Spring and Summer here in Alabama. When it starts to cool off again I will get a jacket and pants.

Here I thought the Jacks were setting up some sort of ultra hi tech method of altering any affects of climate change by implementing their newly developed Weather Shield.

Actually, I guess it does, one hammock at a time.
