    Angry Need help stuffing down!!!

I have lots of down and a couple underquilts I need to get it into. I tried drifter's down sucking rig. $40 later and it won't pick up a single thing and I can't even return some of it. Then I tried the suck it into a vacuum hose but I can only get 2g in there and I need 50g per baffle. And to top it off I can't seem to get my scale to stay on long enough to scoop 50g out of my pillow and into a box. Every time you turn the thing on it re-tares itself and you really can't figure out how much down you have in the box. Oh, and the openings in the quilt are too small to get my hand into. Anyone have any ideas how to get this done in a hurry so I don't freeze this weekend?

The only help I have is weigh the box and add 50g. That will be the target weight you will be looking for when you turn the scale on and set the box with down on it.

I thought of that, but need to find some place to put all the down that is in it right now.

If the down pickup tube to use with a vacuum is configured like this (either end could be the vac)...

...you're saying it will only pick up 2 grams? Does the 2g of down stop the suction so the tube doesn't fill or does the tube only hold 2g?

2g is all it wants to pick up. The mesh did its job but the system clogs quickly.
I did figure out that I don't have the exact PVC piece that drifter was using, might have to try that. I have just a regular T instead of a drain T. Anyone know if that matters? I know the insides are a little different.

Not much help, but it looks like they were getting ~5g at a time in this thread.

If you consistently get 2g, stop weighing and put 25 tube fills in each baffle.

I was pulling my down out of a pillow and noticed that I could grab about an ounce in a handful. I was using one ounce per baffle so as long as it was over an ounce I didn't sweat it. I used small plastic garbage bags turned inside out like a glove to transfer the down from pillow to scale. This allowed me to minimize the amount of down floating around the room. Unfortunately the bags have a tendency to pick up a static charge which will also reduce floaters but will cause some down to be left in the bags. I figured given the amount of down it took to weigh an ounce I was only loosing micro grams at the most so I just let it go to the trash. I think the inside out glove method has merit especially if you can find static free bags.

I tie it up above the bath. Grab what collects in the bottom and stuff it in.

Take a look at post #4 in this thread: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=78847

It shows how I did my stuffing from a bag of loose down, similar to a pillow. f you move really slowly there isn't much waste, plus your weighing container, transfer device, and DID (Down injecting device ) are all the same bits.

    Hope it helps

Describe the problem you were having, maybe I can help walk you thru to solve it. I hate that you have invested in the parts for one and it not work.
