I saw a youtube video at some point about a guy who did a thing. I copied that thing last week when I did a 5 day Foothills trail hike, and man it changed my life.
Well I do have to take some credit for what I did because he was a ground dweller. Anyways to the point. Get a trash compactor bag and yes it does need to be a trash compactor bag. Use the TCB as a liner for your pack and put all of your quilts in it along with any clothes and pillows. Gather it up like you were going to blow it up and start cramming it down as hard as you can while gathered let the air out as u cram till u completely smash all of the air possible out of the TCB. Then twist it up and tuck it down in the front or back.
You maximize the space in youre pack because you will be using every square inch inthe bottom. Not to mention all of youre stuff is completely protected from the elements. I got the scented ones and my stank clothes and stuff still smelled fresh at the end.
hope this helps
