It's my understanding that there's a lot of teamwork that goes into the Frozen Butt Hang. These guys have a great team concept, they lookout and take care of one another. Looks like a lot of fun going on, but there's also serious business taken care of beforehand. Hoping all works out well for you fellas.

I think we are aware of the danger or at least I hope we are . I have warned a few in the early posts to expect zero degrees and wind so please at least test your gear as cold as you can before ventureing out .
I had a scary experiance back in the winter of 09/10 when my buddy woke up at about 3 AM shivering uncontrollabley and was somewhat incoherant . I had to heat him up in an insulated tarp with a single burner Coleman lantern that night . We could possibely have walked back to the car but first I had to get him coherant at least . This is why the small teepee is coming along on this outing .

Ah, so much prep work to do yet, but I still won't be back from Christmas vacation for a week yet.

So just to confirm the plans, less than a two mile hike from parking lot to campsite, and only day hikes from there? What I'm getting at, is making sure it won't be a problem if I overpack more than I could carry only a couple miles.

Measures out about 1.5 miles if you add up the distances on the Hoist Lake Area map . I think Im going to pack my sled modular style if the snows deep it might be a bit of an ordeal so I figure I could dump part of the load along the trail and come back if necessary . ( Klondike style )

I should be fine if I can keep under 50 lbs on the sled and 20 in the pack .

do not stack the gear on the sled to high.if the snow is deep you will spend half the trip tipping your sled back upright.long sleds are better for this reason.when you pack the sled keep the heavy stuff on the bottom.
if the trail is well packed the sleds normally do not tip much so no worries.
all of my sleep gear and cloths i am putting in a big plastic tote and lashing that to my sled .it sits a little high but i really like useing the tote makes setting the hammock up and taking down a breeze.

Here's mine from last year . Do you believe we had about 10 inches of snow 2 weeks before this campout . I use an army duffle bag like you use a tote . I just feed the hammock UQ, sock etc out the end after I secure one of the straps .

As i live up there, I'd expect at least knee, more likely thigh high snow of varying powder/crusty layers. I'll give an eyewitness report within a week prior to this trip.

I like the tote idea...makes perfect sense and I wonder why I didn't think of it. Thanks for sharing that idea.
