Just wondering about road conditions to the west Hoist Lake parking lot . Mapquesting Mio to Oscoda gives the first option as the River road which should take us right past the parking lot or real close to it , so it must be plowed wouldn't you think ?

Vulture if you're still lurking out there . I wonder if I could talk you into a road report on about the 7th or 8th .

The N/S road on the west side is a paved road and is plowed.
The parking lot / trailhead is usually plowed, as that is a cross country ski area.

Well if we can get to the parking lot were cool . Im bringing my 3/4 ton 4X4 with sand bags , chains and a tow strap if anyone were to get stuck in the parking lot .

Much appreciated Joe! Looks like another 3-6" of fresh snow is on the way this weekend. That will put us over a foot. With temps staying cold I think we're going to have a nice base on this trip.

This is exactly why us Northern Indiana boys are driveing up to 45 degrees north latitude this winter . Exact same thing happened last winter . About 10 inches of snow on the ground . A week before our winter outing a warm rainy weather pattern moved in and wiped out all the snow . This followed by an Alberta clipper bringing single digit temps so we needed all our gear with no snow for our pulks . Luckily we got about an inch or two the night of the campout so all was good but like I said LUCK .

2" snow, then maybe some mixed precip. Then more snow Sunday. Then COLD. I LIKE IT!

I am going to have to back out. I have surgery on January 2nd. Don't think I will be up for the hike. All that has been posted so far for around the Gaylord area is about all I know of at this point. I just started this journey earlier this year.

Sorry to hear that buddy . Probabley be nice to have a working knee tho . They chase you out and have you exerciseing pretty quickly now a days but 8 days sounds a little close .
