Alot of people seem to forget that winter is no joke. Traveling in cars with no coats and no supplies. I keep wondering if I'm taking this as seriously as I should. Planing and execution.

I've done about 2 trips a winter, but they have all been car camping. I'm interested in testing myself with limited supplies and no easy bail options. For instance my two burner white gas stove is a champ car camping below freezing, but I'm not packing it two miles. Also, no extra sleeping bag and big box of layer 100 ft away in the Jeep in case I get cold.
I know what works for me, but that safety net isn't going to be as big this weekend. That puts me on edge a little.
It's making me plan an test and double check my gear. Checking weight and the sled. Just being extra careful because im hoping to not be "That Guy".
Mr LCV who lives close to our sight had lows of 0 degree and -2 in some places last night . So looking good .
I can't wait! I just packed up my gear to check the fit. Pretty good even with 2 under quilts which I'll bring if it's 10° or lower. Definitely shooting for just one though.
Other than that, just adding the Jetboil, hatchet, snowshoes and warmer clothes to my usual 3-season gear. I'll probably swap out the dromedary bag for bottles too.
I have my cold-weather canister stove use down to a science, so I should be OK on fuel. Bringing an extra 100g canister just in case.
I always seem to bring way too much gear . I usually end up packing about half of it back out to the truck on Fri. or Sat since in the past I could never sleep worth a whit and I'd be pretty exhausted by Sunday .
I slept outside last night down here at my sons place near Louisville in the hammock . Slept about 10 hours . This is the difference for me between hammock and ground camping . If I were ground camping like last year Id be lucky to get 3 or 4 hours .
As a newbie to winter camping (tho I did hang one night in 16 degree weather), I'm looking forward to this. Just made my UQ and will be testing that in the next couple of weeks :-) It's a heavy monster that I'll only use when there's snow for pulling a sled, or car camping... I don't think it'll even fit in my backpack.
As a bail-out contingency, I'm hoping I can stage my truck within a few miles of the selected hang spot. That being said, RiverJoe can do you know the road name to the trailhead parking area?
