I think that is some of picking up the ball.
As this is a Deep Winter Hang it is very important to be on the ball as well.
I know that folks get excited and come to these without ever having hung in their hammocks in these temps and some find out that they just aren't prepared. We had temps -15º last year. Not fun if your not outfitted properly.
That said....I can't say that I can pick up the ball either at this point but will do what I can to make sure folks have a goodly and safe hang.

What a drag! I do hope this still happens and I will do my best to see that it does but either way I'll be up there at that time.

Hey Algonz.....oh it will happen for sure. The spot last year was easy to get to and hang and free.
I'll do what I can to help keep it on track.

I'm going to try and do this one. Going to build a portable stand so I can test all of my insulation before I go to make sure I am ready to go. I know better than to enter this unprepared.
Growing up in Northern Wisconsin we used to go out and build shelters out of pine branches and camp for the weekend in the winter. This sounds like even more fun.

Not sure what my employment situation and schedule will look like in January, but I'd like to try to work this one in if I can.

fourdog has been AWOL for a long time. Never heard or saw from him again after he hosted that one Winter Hang.
Did he get miffed at us all?
Just always wondered as I always enjoyed his company.
I was at Fourdogs place back in March for some winter survival training but have not been able to get a hold of him ever since either.

I'd love to participate in this.

I'm not a complete stranger to below freezing weather, having lived almost 6 years in Alaska and playing outdoors in -30°C (-25°F) weather. :-) I've never "camped" in weather that cold in anything like a hammock or tent, but we'd spend most winters at a remote cabin with nothing but wood heat where it was necessary to be fully dressed and wrapped in down sleeping bags to stay warm.

My biggest challenge in the "temperature" area is going to be determining if my GSD can handle those kinds of temps and how to outfit him, should he want to join me.

I'd also be more than happy to help ff there's anything I can do in that regard.

Been trying to figure out what GSD stands for! German Shepard Dog?

Probably make a game time decision on that one to see what the temps could potentially be.

Yeah, We have 3 German Shepherds, but mine is the largest of our pack at about 95lbs. He's starting to pack on some winter fat and his coat has gotten a lot thicker just in the past few weeks. This will be his first true "winter" since we relocated here from Tennessee around June of this year. More than anything, even with the double coat, I just want to make sure he can get comfortable in that kind of weather, so he'll be doing a fair amount of testing with me come December.

If he does ok with the test overnight hangs in the back yard, he'll probably accompany me since he loves to "work" and pulling a pulk sled would make his day.

I had him up here for a visit in March while there was still a good bit of snow on the ground, and he loved it.

Got the official word today. I will be able to attend this hang.

I had a great time last year and can't wait to get out there with everyone.

I have some new equipment to bring along this year. I think I will need a longer sled to haul everything.
