    Looking for the "final" upgrade

I have been hanging for a while now. Most of the places I go are way, way, way back and more often than not their is no trail. Even before I began using a hammock I worked as a guide and placed a premium on gear durability vs weight. I don't mind paying for great equipment as long as the equipment is worth it. That being said, a tarp IMO is one of the most important pieces of gear we use. If you are someone who really gets out there, your weather protection - rain gear, tarp etc. is what keeps you safe when things go bad.

All of that to say, I am looking to upgrade to an extremely lightweight and as bombproof of a tarp as I can. I am looking at these two:

    http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com...products_id=59

    http://www.hyperlitemountaingear.com...lat-tarps.html

Does anyone have experience with either? I am leaning more towards the Mountain Laurel simply because it is slightly bigger, a touch lighter and a little cheaper but I am open to any advice and suggestions...

If you have decided on a cuben tarp then it may be worth a look at hammockgear tarps instead... the hex tarp is $235 and the tarp with doors is $295 here is the link http://www.hammockgear.com/tarps/

I have heard many good things about the company, Adam is happy to talk and willing to do custom work.

I am a big fan of Cuben tarps, and once experienced it is very hard to go back to carrying almost x2 the weight for the same coverage.

That said, if bombproof is more important than weight, I'd put my coin on something else. All depends on your priorities. A falling branch with a sharp protruding nub can cut a nice line on a taut panel of Cuben. So factor in carrying some duct tape for repairs in the backcountry.

Still going with Cuben then +1 on hammockgear.com

I've seen a camo cuben tarp which was much nicer than the gray cuben tarps.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

FWIW - most of the cuben is .54 but heavier is available. If you really want bomb proof you might want to inquire.
    YMMV

+1 on what Nothermark said. I have a .7 cuben tarp and it feels much more substantial than the .5 material. You'll have to ask if it's available though. I think most tarp makers are using the lighter material these days.

I have a cuben hammock tarp from Hyperlite Mountain gear. They use the .74 stuff for their tarps and call it a type of hybred cuben. It may fit what you seek in a more heavier duty than the lite .54 cuben. Their stuff is top notch made. They have been doing cuben stuff for a while. I recommend them highly.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.
