I love the Pif . One look at the SS will say that. But honestly, I've got a closet full of surplus diy hammocks that I'd love to be rid of. I'm constantly tweaking the design for my "perfect hammock" and with each revision, one goes in the closet And its not just hammocks, its UQs, stoves etc..

I don't want to violate the non commercial nature of HF. And at the same time, its not a business (and I don't want one either) as we're literally talking revisions of my personal gear. So I'd love to trade them off.

I also have a lot of commercially made gear I could get rid of.

In either case I dont want to "pif" them and have something like an IMUSA listed in return , nor do I want to sell stuff off for $ because then my wife sees that balance and thinks it can go toward nonoutdoor stuff

So I'd love a super pif, or something...

Its just a suggestion.. Maybe its a dumb one, but its one I've been thinking of for a while.

I don't know how a "Super PIF" would work, but posting your stuff up in the For Sale forum with a "for trade" tag might work for you.

Right now, that's not the point. And I dont want to give the mods a reason to lock this down by turning it into a marketplace post.

And while I agree with Greshs statement about posting it in the FS section witha trade option, It clearly states in the FS rules that items must be listed with a price. Which is why I think we need a seperate section for trade only posts.

By the FS forum rules as they're written, I can't say

"WTT this knife @xxx{=====> make me a trade offer"

I may be able to get away saying
"WTB super fly, offering this cool emoticon knife @xxx{=====>" but that requires me to know what I want, and honestly, the cool part about a lot of trading on here is just not knowing you want something until you see it. Sometimes it works out.. I picked up both a remote fuel stove and a swiss volcano stove on here in trades and PIFs.. And I love them both. Sometimes it doesn't, like the firefly I got.. I did not like it one bit.. But I got to try something I would otherwise never tried.

Oh, and btw, the offer still stands, your superfly for a knife just like this @xxx{=====>.. In fact, I'll make it 2 of them @xxx{=====> <=====} xxx@

My suggestion, for what it is worth, is to allow posting in the FS area with a WTT title that requires no pricing and the person can not accept cash for it.

I would also say that all trading offers need to be done via the open forum and not via PM. That way everyone involves/interested would know exactly what is going on. That should make less work for the mods since all parties would know what was happening and when.

It would work something like this:

Jim offers a DIY hammock for WTT
Mary offers to trade Jim 3 stuff sacks for the hammock
Jim refuses offer
Joe offers Jim a complete cook kit for the hammock
Jim accepts Joe's offer
Deal is done

Keeping in mind that all of this is done via open forum and not behind the scenes. Each offer must be refused before the next offer is posted would be nice but hard to enforce.

Just trying to think this through looking for pit falls.

I think that this could work and I like the idea of having the offers "out in the open". I think that this could also be a fun way of trading gear. One idea that I had is that I could put something up for trade and then give people 24 hours to post their trade options and then after the 24 hours I could choose which one I want to accept.
