    Talking CA>NorCal>No Idea > November 9th??

Hey everyone, I'll be moving into your state in less than two weeks and want to figure out a hang for the first weekend I'm there. Does anyone have some suggestions on some backpacking spots to hang a hammock?

I would like to avoid car camping and prefer to hike into a campsite or even some woods where I can camp wherever. I am living in the Grass Valley area, but don't mind driving a little.

Also, anyone who wants to come is for sure welcome to share a fire.

Beautiful place to call home. I don't live in that area anymore, but if you don't get any new intel, shoot me a pm and I will give you what I know.
I have fishing holes, bird hunting locations and mountain bike trail info, but it is about 10yrs old.

I'm sorry Fronkey, it appears you have moved to a state that lacks trees and scenic beauty......but if you really want to do it, the lower Sierra's might be your best bet as long as we don't have heavy snow. But as I remember, you love snow. I'll keep an eye on my schedule. Welcome to the promised land.......gary

I've gone to the Loch Leven Lakes in Tahoe National Forest. Stayed twice at the Middle Lake and once at the High Lake. I liked it a lot. There's also Woods Lake in Eldorado National Forest. I usually use Google Earth to make sure there trees.

    Yuba river is awesome.

Drive north on hwy 49 and explore. Park at a trailhead and head out. Too many spots to list!

Trinity Alps, a little heaven on earth. Hit me up if you're headed that way, still got some time before the snow.

These are awesome guys, thanks so much! I'm searching and using google maps to check out all your suggestions and I have some ideas to where I can sneak out to for my first hang after I move. I'm excited to get out there!

Another vote for the Yuba River

You'll be in Grass Valley, the Yuba is only about an hour away.

That time of year I will avoid Tahoe and the high Sierras. Could snow on you or be very wet/cold. Not that it's bad to have some snow, you just never know how much you'll get or if your car will be stuck miles down a dirt road. Once it hits November, I will usually wait until the beginning of the year once the snow has consolidated and I can pull a sled.

The coast is nice this time of year. However, since you are in GV, I would hit the Yuba, it's in your back yard.

Here is a cool hike that could be done with two cars:

This looks great Sidewinder! Thank you. I'll be sure to get out there soon and it looks like it would be a fun little trip to do in winter.
