Video: Fall 2013 Men's Gospel Camp Out

This trip introduced a few new people to hanging. I show off my fist hammock (from back in 2006) and my first attempt at making my own tarp (again ~2006).

We had about 14 of us. With last year's trip in mind, and a new game plan, several of my friends join for an overnight at John Rock in Pisgah for some fellowship, food, gear talk, and Bible study.

A surprise visit from ~30 boy scouts made for an interesting evening.

Since the trip was in Pisgah, no one should have been surprised when we had some misting rain early in the morning. Some hangers without tarps ended up ground dwellers under the tarps that were available.

Ah, John Rock and hot dogs! Looks like your group all enjoyed themselves despite the drizzle. Does it ever rain in Pisgah??? I'm sure they appreciated the outing FIMB. Thanks for posting.

Looked like fun! Been thinking of something akin to this for the fellas at my church.

It is rare for it to not rain in Pisgah, but we prevailed.

It is quite the adventure to be kept accountable for more than just the trip logistics. Check the link in the video description on YouTube for a little extra.

Thanks for sharing. Our church men do this a couple of times a year. Most are just car campers, so no hiking in yet...but I am working on it. Great way to enjoy God's creation and study His Word.

Thanks for posting that Jeremy. Always a good thing to hear from you. Praying I can lead men in my church in this way as well.

FIMBones, I loved everything about that! What a great group! Makes me want to make the way long trip to SC to join you on one of your trips! Or, you and some of your gang could come way over here ( Like MacEntyre and Doug the Elder and other folks from the Carolinas did a few years ago) to join us for a Sipsey Wilderness adventure!

Also, that camp area looked like hammock hanger heaven! So many usable trees in one spot for a big group!

So, you had campers that dared an overnighter without tarps or tents? Oh well, that is the glory of a hammock under a tarp: room for others to ground dwell under the hammock or to the side!

Thanks for making and posting that video!

It is great to get out into the woods with others who enjoy a bit more of a challenge than car camping. I encourage others to get out, whatever the means.

You're welcome. I hope that you will be able to get out with others. I'll then be able to see/read your report.

I'd love to have you out here. I'm not sure how I'd do out your way, but that could be fun too. Thanks for the invite.

The John Rock Hang is a great one and is fabulous for accommodating multiple hangers.

Yeah, several of those in attendance are still new enough to the game or can't yet afford tarps, so I have some work to do to prep them for more trips. My spacious tarp will have to house others until then.

Making these videos can be work, but it's worth it. Thanks for watching.
