Does a wider hammock effect UQ performance

I'm asking the Mrs. for a DH Thunderbird for Christmas. Randy gives a huge range of width. Will going wider effect the performance of my JRB Greylock 3?

I was told when I asked that question to the vendors that the width of hammock didn't matter and that it is the length of UQ, according to the height of the individual.
I have a thunderbird myself. love it! it is about 63 inches wide. huge. I am 6', 220lbs. I ordered a "polar" zeppelin from UGQ, standard length(78") I am hoping to have it by the end of this month so I will be posting on it. you can always just email the vendors like dream hammock/papa smurf.

I recently made a DIY Hammock 63" Wide x 106" Long (Finished Size) and found that you simply wind up with excess material on the sides that flops around (w/o a knotty mod) and that the lay is really no better than a 55" wide..Without making the hammock Longer, adding extra width does little good to improve the lay. That said I agree totally that it is primarily the Length of the UQ that matters as long as the UQ has a reasonable width (at least say 42" or more).

The UQ needs to fit the user. There are some instances when things like tie outs or design features may need to be tweaked to fit the UQ properly but generally, material width alone is not a concern.

I had to tweak the HG 20* underquilt to get it to work for me with my DIY 11' x 62" wide hammock. Ended up running both the channel suspension line and the ends tension line off the triangle thingies. Had to cut both shock cords to attach separately as opposed to the single loops they started out as. Works great now.
