Hammocks at Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground?

Saw that there were tent sites available. I wonder if hammocks are allowed on the trees?

Also it didn't say anything about showers available. Has anyone camped there before.

At the risk of offering nothing useful, I used to hang out at popupexplorer.com. There are a lot of people/threads there who know all the ins and outs of Fort Wilderness. I am sure no hammock info, but all kinds of info on facilities, activities, etc. I would think the campground would be so active 24/7 it would be hard to sleep in a tent or hammock.

    I have.

I am 99% certain that they wouldn't let you use an hammock on the trees; they wouldn't let me tie my tarp off to the trees when I was using a t**t with Mrs. FLRider a couple of years back. Which is totally understandable, since they get every kind of tourist there is. If they did let folks tie things to their trees, I'm sure some fine upstanding citizen would do something stupid like try to lift an engine block out over a branch or set up a laundry line using wire and a winch. Shortly thereafter, there wouldn't be any trees left to shade the place.

They do have showers available, and the inter-park bus service is (as always) impressively well-run. So you won't have to drive once you get there.

I wasn't particularly impressed with the campground proper; it's definitely designed to allow for the maximum number of folks while making maintenance as easy as possible rather than being picturesque. For the price they want, it wasn't in my perceived value range. So, we've not gone back since the one visit. But, that's another story altogether.

If you're looking for a campground convenient to the parks that has full service amenities, this is not a bad choice. If you're looking for a wilderness experience, this is not it. YMMV.

I had a feeling no hanging from trees. Was just an idea.
