    fabric

Can anyone tell me if this would be good to make a extra heavy duty hammock, i copied this description
Waterproof Breathable Ripstop Ceil Blue $1.49/yard
73.5/75 inches wide High Technology polyester very high tensile strength Waterproof Breathable Ceil Blue Ripstop, 3.75 ounce/square yard fabric is both a fluid barrier (a much higher standard than waterproof), and very breathable. The fiber content is 99% Polyester and 1% Carbon Fiber. It is a much stronger fabric than traditional ripstops and is machine washable in hot water and very fade resistant, fire retardant and anti-static (electrostatic dissipative). $1.49 a yard

Other than the weight, it sounds like a dream fabric, and at that price it won't hurt to try it. It won't be as breathable as regular ripstop but at $6 a hammock I say go for it.

It's an unknown to us unless someone here bought one of the other color rolls that were listed earlier. Contact Larry and he will send you a sample swatch so you can at least see what it feels like.

Sounds great for yard hammocks, car camping, hiking with burro's, ect. I might like to play with a few yards myself.

looks like you could save some weight by not carrying any under insulation and hang over the campfire. (not really, you kids don't try that at home).

I got my samples from Larry at Magna Fabrics of this "Waterproof, Breathable" material.

I'm not sure he sent me the correct samples, as this is

$2.50/yd 100% polyester (which is also flame resistant, according to the spec sheet )

I can't see it being suitable for a hammock. The samples are typical textile mill QC samples (2"x4") but they're very heavy, very rough, and have more of a canvas feel than a nylon. I for one wouldn't want to lay on it, and despite my best efforts, trying to breathe through it is nearly impossible,

I couldn't see them being very comfortable.

Looks interesting, but a big gamble - you must buy it by the roll, not the yard, so the cheapest listed on the website is 52 yards for $77. If there were a group buy, I'd be in for 6 yards or so, but I have no idea what I'd do with it. Also, if it's a fluid barrier, I don't see how it can be very breatheable; air is a fluid.

Zilla, for a strong hammock, look at supplex nylon. It's one of the most comfortable fabrics there is. Make it extra long so you get a good diagonal sleeping position. That gives the effect of making it wider, too.
