First hang: 2.7 Marpat 11ft Thunderbird (pic heavy)

Just wanted to share some more pics and give a quick update on my experience with my most excellent 11ft MARPAT Thunderbird hammock…

I only had a quick 1 week break from work abroad, and only managed to go to a couple of places near the city..
And here are some pics to share. (Thanks to my lovely wife for helping me with the photo shoot).

I’ll be getting a little more hang time when I get back to Moscow again soon and will write a little more about the hammock as time goes by.

But for now, all I can say is that this Thunderbird is one very nice hammock. It’s easy to set up and very well made. It looks and also feels the business.

Went with the 2.7oz/yd2 material for its low stretch, and single layer as I don’t think I’ll be using it in warmer climates when the mosquitoes are out.

I did actually use the Underquilt Hooks at the ends of the hammock to better secure the ends of the underquilt shock-cord suspension to the hammock (although didn’t take photos after doing this). They work pretty good.

I was a little concerned that I didn’t order any extra zipper sliders, but even when I was in it, I could still close the zippers all the way up to the head end of the hammock quite easily. I’m may consider ordering some extra zipper sliders along with some of Randy’s new shiny strap buckles..

I swapped out the supplied suspension this time as I was eager to try out some new dutch hooks and some other items (worked great: Thanks Dutch & Keith!) but will try out the cinch buckle suspension next time round.

The hammock itself, again is top notch, lays very flat and is very easy to set-up and get comfy in. I can see myself spending many comfy nights in this baby.

I also like the double-ended stuff-sack that came with the hammock for quick deployment. I normally just stuff the hammock with underquilt still attached into my bag in one piece without a stuff-sack (my bag is a big stuff sack ), but I will probably use the supplied stuff sack for summer hanging when no quilts or only a thin quilt is required.

Lastly, just wanna say Thanks a Lot to Randy, for getting the hammock shipped out to me so quickly and for the superb customer service. He was very patient and helpful as I initially had some trouble with my Paypal account, but he still put my order in queue while I sorted it out. He is very professional and I highly recommend a dream hammock to anyone considering a new hammock.

That looks really sweet. I only wish they made Marpat silnylon.

Great photos and thank you for your kind words.
I really like working with that 2.7oz Marpat Poly/Nylon. It's got a nice feel to it.

    No, thank you Randy!

Oh, yes forgot to mention the fabric.. That's right, its got a very nice feel to it. I would say its more 'cloth'-like than nylon.. No regrets on the choice, thats for sure.

Thanks Chard, yes I need a nice camo tarp also.. but will be going with Multicam soon

Thanks bayoubomber and Cali.. it is a nice setup and can't wait to get home for another hang in it soon.

Thanks JollyGreen, love the Hangle. But not sure if its a convenience or a curse! haha.. It made me pretty OCDish, taking too much time getting that bubble right in the center! Eyeballing for a 30º suspension angle is lot faster, but hey, I still love it. It weighs nothing and if you get bored and feel the need to tinker, getting that bubble centered is a great way to pass some time..

Where did you get that level, because I'm sure my angle in the hammock I have isn't right???
