About 3 months ago, my daughter and I slept in our hammocks in my back yard. I live out in the country and we have issues with random dogs wandering onto my property . . . well one morning, I had the joy of being rudely awakened by a dog hangin off my arm. Long story short, tetanus shot, dog quarantined, and 3 months later . . . I sleep like a baby in my hammock.
I just had to decide whether I was going to worry about it or not.

You mean you woke up with the dog biting you?

I wake up all the time when sleeping out in the bush, my own paranoia about bears, even a chipmunk is a bear at 3am!
I found sleeping away from "he who snores" (even though he doesn't really snore, just grunts and moans and...) and earplugs help. So does reading. I don't read before bed anymore, but do keep my phone handy and read whatever is on that at the time, just to zone out a bit.
Last time I was out, I took some Advil PM before bed, slept like the dead, but don't want to make a habit out of that.

+ 1 on the Advil pm. More than that though at least for me I struggle going to sleep in a bed at least once or twice a week. So it would figure that I'd have issues sleeping outside in a hammock as well and I do. For me it seems like it it comes and goes in a hammock just like it does in a bed. In August I was in a hammock for six straight nights and slept like a baby up on the north shore. The past two weeks I've done three back yard hangs and had trouble going to sleep two out of the three nights and had to do the Advil thing..Who knows..

I guess I'll have to try some type of pill beside the ones that "help" you go to sleep but doesnt keep you asleep. I have the same paranoia, everything is a one eyed hammock eating Sasquatch at midnight, 1am, 2am, 3am and even 4am Right up until I click my heels and the alarm goes off right as I start to actually go to sleep

I always have trouble sleeping on the first night, after that it's not a problem. Try meditation....it couldn't hurt.

I've had the same issue. I wake up to every little noise and my imagination goes wild. Last trip I took a benadryl before bed and slept like a rock, but I agree about not wanting to make it a habit

The sun has been pretty active lately, this has been linked to sleeplessness. Just a thought.

Sounds like you're 'hyper aware' of your surroundings. Attenuating the senses may do the trick = Ear plugs. A large wad of TP in one ear works for me (the other ear is toward the pillow). This allows you to turn your head to investigate if you do hear something.
