I rigged up my hammock gear cuben tarp with g line for a continuous ridgeline over the tarp and then also used g line for the tie outs. I recently used this setup for a 5 day trip in the smokies.
PROBLEM - On the first night of our trip, the dacron sheath on the g line continuous ridge line snapped when I was tightening down the corner tie outs. The spectra cord did not break, but the orange dacron sheath separated near the tree. The ridgeline continued to function just fine, but with the sheath separated by 4 or 5 inches and the spectra exposed, I had to be careful with the exposed spectra section. On the second night, the same thing happened in another section of the gline where it was wrapped around a tree and hooked with a dutch hook.
SOLUTION - While the 200lb rating appears to be good for the spectra cord, I somehow stressed the dacron sheath beyond its rating. To keep this from being an issue in the future, I am going to switch my CRL back to zing it.
For the tarp tieouts, the g line worked great. A 2 wrap prusik held very well on the tie outs. I will continue to use g line in that application.
