SC> PSH - Save the Campground Hang 15-17 Nov 13

Leroy's Ferry is a Corps of Engineers primitive campground consisting of ten (10) sites right on Lake Thurmond. Each site has a picnic table, fire pit, grill and a pole with a hook for a lantern. It consists of two loops, the first with sites 1-4 and the second with sites 5-10. Each loop has a pit toilet and there is a well with faucet by the entrance to the park. A boat ramp is at the end of the main road into the campground.
This park will be closing next week and will not reopen unless something can be done to prevent it. Due to loss of funding, several campgrounds and day use areas are closing. (Federal Government cut backs)
This is a primitive campground so it would not take much to maintain it. I am also looking into McCormick County Recreation helping. I will be getting with them to discuss this.
I think this would be a great project for the Palmetto State Hangers to adopt this campground and help to maintain it and keep it open.
I have scheduled a Hang for 15-17 November so everyone interested can check out the campground and I will try to get the Corps Manager to visit with us at the site to give us more information. This is a worthy cause and I think you will find this a very nice, quiet campground and a great place to hang.
I have cleared it with The Corps of Engineers for us to have a Hang there 15-17 Nov. So I hope to see you out there. Thank you all, and I think you will not reqret it.
We can plan a pot luck Saturday night if anyone is interested.

Some of us are not living in state yet, but I think a "Hangers Campground " is a great idea.
Keep this thread going. I hope to change my Latitude and Attitude by next spring.
    I can help out then!

I'll be there. See if I can bring some of my local friends and get them in on the action.

Great idea Baja (Cali). I am part of a Wildlife Club that maintains a 21.5 mile hiking trail in a national forest. It is great to get involved with something you like.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

I plan to be there with my brood in tow. Should be around 10 of us.
I will invite our local geocaching group to join us, too.

Thank you all, and I hope we can get some more folks interested. This is for services only, no money involved. We are hoping to help save the campground by helping with maintenance and keeping it clean. I think once you see this quaint little campground you will see why I want to save it. It is a great place to hang right on Lake Thurmond. It also has a nice boat ramp. Come on folks, lets get involved and help to save this campground. It will only require a little bit of your time.
