    Over-Compressing Down Quilts

Does anyone know, is it possible to over compress down gear, such as quilts, and damage the down (lessen the insulation value)? I packed up my under and top quilt in a single stuff sack recently and then used a compression sack to cinch it down...wondering if that is a mistake.

    Thanks,
    Steve

i did exactly what you are doing on the AT. that was years ago and quilts still great. the compressing in the field at temps below zero became tiresome and cold. i lessened my other gear, but still carry a Golite Pinnacle. i pack the quilts lose to take up space as i eat food.
