Cub Scout camp put a hole in my tarp

Last weekend I was at Scoutland in Northeast Georgia camping with over 1,000 Cub Scouts and their families. Temperatures got into the low 30s on Friday night, 40s on Saturday night. I was warm and toasty with my 20° Phoenix and 20° Burrow on Friday night and overheated on Saturday night causing me to wake up and vent the Burrow.

I set my hammock up Friday night with my HG Cuben Fiber tarp deployed with the doors closed. At the time of set up, my tarp was intact.

My rig was set up near the archery range behind the archers, not the targets. I had left my hammock in the morning with the doors closed and gone about my daily activities.

Saturday evening I returned to find a hole in my tarp. The guy lines were also loose indicating someone had probably tripped over one or two. They were tight when I left the hammock in the morning.

I tried to insert a image of the tarp hole, but none of the edit functions are working so I have tried to attach one.

There is a video on YouTube from AaronAlso where he showed a hole in his tarp similar to the one in my tarp caused by what he suspected was stick falling from a tree hitting the tarp.

Any suggestions on repair before I bother the fine folks at Hammock Gear?

Bad news that. Whatever did it, there is a nice hole now. I got a bit of cuban tape for repairs with mine. If you ask Adam he might just send you a piece to mend it with, and it should do the job.
The question remains, what did happen? You may never know, then on the other hand word might come round to you yet.
    Good luck with it.

Looks like a puncture to me, not somebody tripping over a guy line. Luckily, that's not too bad a puncture and should be easily repairable with cuben tape (or duct tape, or Tyvek tape, in a pinch). I'm sure you'll get much more mileage out of it once repaired.

I think you may be on to something there, but I am leaning more towards a small foot. It was the weekend before Halloween and there were all manner of monsters out that weekend.

I think I will be ordering some of those Cuben Sleeves from Adam anyway so I can put the tarp up and away when not in use, but still have it ready to be deployed when needed. That should stop the guyline tripping issues during the day and protect the tarp better from falling or flung debris (lower profile). One can never have too much HammockGear.

The pic is from Sunday afternoon back at the house on the turtle dog stand drying in the sun before packing it up. The attached pic is of it at Scoutland. I hung in in the corner of the corral with Troop 700 where I thought my rig would be out of the way of foot traffic and other hazards or so I thought.

Sunday morning at around 5:30 am someone who was packing up early walked into my suspension on the other side of the fence. That wakes one up in a hurry!

I had a hole put in a tent years back on a boy scout camp out. I am very careful about what I take when I do scout camping events with my boys theses days, but I think that can be easily repaired.

I don't know if I've ever met a Scout that would try to walk around something when they could (almost) step over it.

    Guy lines, food, fire, ....

Maybe I should consider getting a silnylon tarp for these type events.

Might not be a bad idea. I have one set of gear I take on Scouting events and another that I use when on my own time. It's a shame, but there's something about really nice (and expensive) gear that attracts the most careless people around me at Scout functions.
