    NO ridgeline length/tarp questions

just wondering what everyone is using for the length on their ridge lines, i cant recall my length but i noticed this weekend, that the ends of the hammock were protruding out from under my tadpole. just need a bit of insight as i think i recall reading that the correct length was something like 115".

also i have the the tadpole witht he 11 foot ridgeline do i need to upgrade to the 12 foot one?

    thanks in advance

The length of the hammock ridgeline is usually calculated to around 82-83% of the length of the hammock. An 11-foot hammock would have a 9-foot (108 inches) ridgeline.

If your rig is an 11-foot tadpole, combined with an 11-foot night owl, then it is physically impossible for the hammock to extend beyond the tarp. With the proper sag/angle, the tadpole should completely cover the night owl, with a foot to spare on each side.

An 115-inch ridgeline would suggest a hammock close to 12 feet long. If that is what you have and the tarp doesn't cover the hammock, then the hammock doesn't have the proper sag/angle. It is strung too tightly, the lay will be uncomfortable, and you will be putting a lot of strain on the suspension. If this hypothetical 12-foot hammock were strung correctly, the tadpole would still cover it with about 8 inches to spare on each side.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your question?
