    Kids Hammock

Starting to make a hammock for my 5' tall daughter. I dont see her camping out in it, just hanging out. I plan on making it 7' long but dont know what width to make it. Right now its 60" wide and she gets lost in it. Any suggestions? I dont want to cut it twice and have still be to narrow...

My daughter is 11, about 5' tall, 80 lbs, sleeps well in a Byer Moskito, whatever size that is...

Claytors and Clarks are 48" wide. I would not go much less than that. If you are whipping the ends make sure you pull the outside edges out a little more than the rest. This keeps it from being tippy. If you sew a channel like the Claytors and Clarks this happens naturally due to the ends sliding on the rope to the middle leaving the outside edges higher on the end loop.

The hammocks I made for two grandsons were 7' long by 42" wide. The older boy was 70 lbs and 54 inches tall at age 8. Based on a growth projection from a forgotten source, I figured he'd be 95 lbs and 59 or 60 inches by age 10. Haven't gotten any feedback from their dad yet.

I saw some light duty hammocks at Mijer the other day for $17 each. A simple upgrade of the suspension system and wamo, you have a good kids hangout. I am getting 2 for my daughters. They want to hang with dad.
