    First DIY Tarp

Well.. I finally finshed my first DIY Tarp last week and set it up during a scout camp out last weekend. This was also my first field hang with my new HH Exped.

As you might notice I have the HH stock setup underneath since I wanted to make sure I stayed dry, just incase the ridgeline seam wasn't completly sealed. The weather forecast was calling for rain and of course when you want it to rain... Well it didn't.

We arrived late friday night and didn't get a chance to put up the DIY tarp until Sat afternoon
All in all... I completly enjoyed each nights sleep, and the bigger tarp reduced the wind underneath me on the last night.
I did notice that there was condensation on my blue Walmart mat that I had in the hammock with me. Is this common???

Fantastic! The tieout details look great - a nice, solid pitch all around! It's nice to see the tarp underneath for another sense of scale, but keep up the good work!

Yes, very. It's why I avoid those things like the plague.
Very nice looking tarp, especially being your first! Hope you've cleared the calendar, it's gonna be full of projects!

Well my calendar was cleared, but it's full for a long time. I have a HH clone I need to finish (bug net and zipper), to start with, ground blinds for turkey hunting, I want to make an underquilt for colder weather, etc.....

As for the blue mat what is an aternative to use with my HH super shelter. I found the the SS was just not enough last weekend (night temps 35-40, back was cold just after geting in).

I've had better results with the GG pads. If you sew a piece of ripstop to it, some of the stickyness goes away. Who knows if they'll ever get fully stocked again. I keep waiting and waiting and waiting. Looks like they've given up on the ultra wide 1/4" pads.

Awesome. Perfect size in my opinion. I've got several yards of gray ripstop sil-nylon in my workshop just waiting on me to figure out why my wifes sewing machine misses stitches and bunches up the material. A tarp just like this is the eventual result of it.

Good looking tarp. The condensation is caused by the pad not breathing. Some love them, others hate them. I only get mine out when the temp really drops or to sit around camp.

I put together some directions for a DIY UQ that are linked on the homepage. They are not as hard as it seems to make. Just make it longer than I did. Let me know if you have any questions. But like Cannibal said, once it starts you just keep sewing.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?
The hanger formly known as "hammock engineer".
