1.1 Sil Is it all the same?

A few months ago I bought some blue 1.1 sil from Quest outfitters. I had a horrible time learning how to sew it without all of it slipping. With tips from everyone here I was able to use it but still fought it along the way. This week I received 10 yards of 1.1 sil from Noah Lamport and it feels very different and was very easy to stitch. The invoice says it is sil and I tried blowing thru it and no air will pass thru. Do different manufactures make it different? I have not had a chance to weigh it yet but it seems a bit thicker that the other blue sil from Quest Outfitters. Any thoughts? I am making a winter tarp with it. I got all the rolled hems done and the ridgeline done. Just have to add the tie outs tonight.

Extreme differences from different manufactures. Even from the same manufacture there can be big surrenders from one type to another. Noah sells mostly 2nds grade as well...the stuff the actual manufacture rejected for one reason or another. Sometimes that has to do with color or coating quality or marks on the fabric or any number of other possible issues.

All sil isn't the same. It can vary by manufacturer.

For the record, I used Noah Lamport sil for a tarp with no problem.

The fabric is 2nds but I could not find any problems in appearance. I will weigh it tonight and see what it weighs. It just seems heavier than the other that I have used which for this tarp is not a problem since my hike to camp in the winter is usually pretty short.

Lots of differences and varying degrees of water resistence depending on the quality of the coating, silnylon is a very generic term for nylon fabric coated with silicone.
