Just saw this post on reddit.. about Handy Hammocks
Seems like a brilliant bit of kit for what it does, but it would need a bit more engineering to fill my needs.
- I'd add an extra pole that "plugs into" the top of the struts with additional guy-lines for a tarp/rainfly.
- Those plastic plates would really take a beating over the course of a few seasons... I'm sure they're made as durable as possible, but if one breaks in the field, a spare or two in your kit would be nice. Then again, titanium may be an answer.
- Taller struts. Getting up away from the cold ground is the reason I started hammock camping. I guess my minimum distance from ground is around 2 ft. (60cm). If I get new gear, it is so I can continue to stay up off the ground.
Again, I'd like to say this is pretty cool stuff. I absolutely love ingenious solutions. If I seem critical, it's because I care.
