    HH Typhoon Tarp

I have been looking at the Typhoon Tarp from HH and haven't been able to find a lot of interest in this product. Does anyone on the forum actively use this tarp? I have read all of the previous posts from years ago when the product first came out.

I don't know about the Typhoon, but I know we really like the Monsoon tarp I got my son last winter. Really cool design.

Do you use it often? I just ordered the Typhoon and there isnt much difference. It is a little bigger I think.

Monsoon is smaller for the Expedition UL Backpacker, Deep Jungle, Evader, and Hyperlite

Typhoon is a little bigger for the Explorers, Deep Jungle XL, and Survivor.

    They're a fine, compact tarp....BackPackHiker.
They'll keep you dry in the foulest weather mother nature can throw at you.
My own DIY 'little red tarp' is based on that design....so I'd say I like it alot.

As Cali above says....only slightly different dimensions between the Monsoon & Typhoon...they're basically the same.

I have a Monsoon and like it for a the coverage it gives as a compact(ish) tarp. However, I've grown accustomed to a bigger tarp (SLD Winter Haven) with integral doors and don't use the monsoon much anymore.

I think it was posted that the Monsoon and Typhoon are the same design, just a slight size difference for the various Hammock models. But there are several differences between those two and a regular Hennessy Hex - or other Hex's.

Instead of two pull-outs on the side, the M. and T. have three; a center and one at each end. But the big difference - and you will feel it if you've just used a regular tarp and had to rig it so the wind was blowing right through it - is the "blast doors" on the ends. They close up the tarp so wind/rain can't blow through it.

Extra large tarps might have that feature but they often gain it by having to pull the corners in at an angle that reduces the interior space under the tarp. The blast doors on the M. and T. are either flush with the end of the tarp or can be pulled out to add a little more tarp coverage.

I hung near the beach at Stuart Island in the San Juans - rather than deeper inland in denser trees - and had a great view. But the tarp was parallel to the mile long bay and it would just funnel wind up the beach (and through my tarp). The second night I put on the blast doors and was just warmer and drying (a little blowing rain).
